AFQT calculator

The same model the app uses for its estimated AFQT

Slide each subtest to the share of questions you get right in practice. The calculator weights them the way the real AFQT does (verbal counts twice), turns the result into a 1 to 99 percentile, and checks it against each branch's minimum.

Drag each slider to the share of questions you get right in that subtest.

Estimated AFQT

57

Category IIIA

Verbal (WK and PC together) counts twice, as in the real AFQT. An estimate for study, not an official score.

    How the estimate works

The real AFQT is computed from standard scores on four subtests: Arithmetic Reasoning (AR), Mathematics Knowledge (MK), Word Knowledge (WK) and Paragraph Comprehension (PC). WK and PC form a verbal score (VE) that counts twice, so the AFQT weighs AR + MK + 2 × VE.

This calculator applies the same weights to the share of questions you answer correctly, then maps that onto the percentile scale with anchor points calibrated to published score distributions: random guessing sits near the bottom, about 65% correct sits near the middle (50), and a clean sheet reads 99.

Treat it as a study gauge, not a promise. The real computer test adapts its questions to you and scores them on a statistical scale, so the same share of right answers can mean different scores on test day.

    What the categories mean

Recruiters group AFQT percentiles into categories: I (93–99), II (65–92), IIIA (50–64), IIIB (31–49), IVA (21–30), IVB (16–20), IVC (10–15) and V (1–9). See ASVAB scores by branch for each branch's minimum, and the ASVAB, explained for the full format.

Get a real estimate. The app builds your AFQT from your actual answers in every AFQT subtest, and draws your branch's line on it.
